A healthy take on caring "too much"

Maybe it's not such a problem after all

Cru’s Letter

Why does the word obsession always have a bad connotation?

I mean, is it really that bad to care?

Of course, you can obsess in an unhealthy way and a lot of folks don’t like my take on this but maybe we need a different word for caring to the furthest extent and acting on that care like crazy.

Personally, my “obsessive” nature with getting better is something I love because when it comes to completing something that matters, no doubt it’ll get done.

When I was younger, by biggest focus was learning as many skills as I possibly could. It’s funny reflecting on those times because I remember being so frustrated by the fact that nobody understood how much I cared to get good at these things. Looking back now, it sure seems like a juvenile lack of confidence BUT I was proud of how much I cared (and still do in a similar way lol).

Practically speaking, I got good at stuff pretty quickly back then but surely my label was “obsessive.”

I see this harsh labeling these days with a lot of cool traits and it always makes me wonder why.

“overthinker”

“perfectionist”

As with anything else, you definitely can can take these attributes too far but let’s be real, the most spectacular people in this world are overthinkers. The problem is, they don’t fit in the box of mainstream education and the corporate world, so it’s vilified.

So here’s the thing…

Maybe you’re “obsessed” with being the best.

Maybe you “overthink.”

Maybe you’re a “perfectionist.”

If any of those are true and they cause you problems, surely there are ways to better manage your expenditure of mental energy BUT if the only reason you dislike those traits is because of other people’s labels, screw the labels and enjoy the high processing power of your brain.
