an excuse to do the hard things

You know why it’s so compelling to me to keep pushing through difficulty and resisting a weak version of myself?

You know why it’s so compelling to me to keep pushing through difficulty and resisting a weak version of myself?

Because to bear my best self’s criticism of my worst self is not a pleasant experience. The pain of understanding what you CAN do, knowing what the best in yourself looks like and still deciding to default to a version of yourself you’d never want to be, is not quite nourishing to your self respect.

If you make the choice to be better consistently enough, you eventually start to look for an excuse to do the hard things instead of an excuse to avoid them… But that sure won’t happen overnight like all of us want it to.
