Consuming food or is it consuming you?

Here's the mindset shift you need around nutrition...

Which do you think is easier…

Eating healthy ALL the time

OR

Eating healthy most of the time

The real answer is that eating healthy all the time is much easier than eating healthy most of the time but it takes a while to get to that point. The reason it’s easier is because when you decide to have a fully clean diet, you already know the answer to any offer of unhealthy food. It’s “no”! Pretty easy…

Now, indulging in junk here and there isn’t the end of the world in a physical sense but where you have to pay attention is the mental side.

To eat healthy 80% of the time and leaving room for the other 20% to be “whatever” maybe seems easier because it feels like freedom but the truth is that it simply requires MUCH more responsibility, discipline, honesty, etc.

Personally, I’ve erased junk food from my diet as of about 8 years ago and now, the mental battle with food takes up about 0% of my mental capacity.

I don’t worry about my weight…

I don’t have to cook a ton of different things…

I don’t waste money on overpriced food at restaurants…

I don’t fear that my choices are making me unhealthy…

The way I live is not right or perfect necessarily but it does work for me. My real priorities in life take up a lot of mental space and I don’t want to waste any of that on arbitrary decision-making.

I prefer peace of mind over the short term enjoyment of highly processed food.

Now, I want to be very clear…

If your priorities are not the same as mine, your choices don’t have to be the same as mine. Your responsibility to yourself is to get really honest and do the work to match your choices to your priorities.

If I traveled to France, I couldn’t care less to try all the fancy pastries and whatnot but maybe you’re reading this thinking, “how the hell would you travel somewhere and not want to experience the cuisine?”

And if that’s the case, I would actually encourage you to go to France and eat the pastries as long as that choice doesn’t create internal conflict.

If you can walk away from this newsletter with one piece of information, it’s this:

Food is not only physical fuel. It’s a reflection of the way you treat yourself and your subconscious mind will take note.

So, make sure you eat food that aligns with your goals, priorities, and worthiness of self respect. This way, you’re consuming food and it’s not consuming you.

P.S. When it comes to what you eat, we have to understand its relationship to what you buy. I have so many thoughts on modern day consumerism that I put them all into a podcast that you can listen to on Spotify or watch below:
