Maybe your attempt to bring the best out of them will be seen as an attack on who they are and what they’ve attached their personality to.
 

If that’s the case, that might tell you your time is better spent around someone else.
 

But to be an example, whether it’s seen in a bad light or not, is the right choice. It’s the harder thing to do, but either you expect the best from yourself and those around you or deal with the consequences of settling for less.
