Cru’s Letter
After thousands of posts, countless hours of writing, years of mentoring people…
I don’t think I’ve made my mission outwardly clear and for that, I apologize. That said, I’m utilizing this letter to do just that.
I’ve always seen my life as an opportunity to show the world something new. I’ve always wondered why self-limitation is so deeply embedded into our thinking, making a sense of individualism an uncommon treasure.
For some reason, I never trusted the people that say, “you can’t” because it seems obvious that if one person can, so can I.
People always love to make it known that extraordinary achievements aren’t realistic which, in their mind, translates to: “it’s impossible for me.” I don’t think that could be any less inspiring so why would I ever follow in the footsteps of someone with that kind of thinking.
Here’s where my place in this world comes in: being an example.
I want to be the person that show’s what’s possible, not what’s “likely.”
I want to give you permission to treat yourself like gold but not confine your personality to the bounds of the “serious people.”
I want to show you the peace and enjoyment that life can offer, without subjecting you to the shitty lifestyle that most of the “fun” people out there have.
Why is it that the people with religious discipline have a personality that stays within the bounds of their lifestyle? And why is it that the folks with the most outgoing and lighthearted personalities often hate themselves behind closed doors?
You don’t have to pick a lane… and that’s what I want to be an example of.
Changing the world is a heavy pursuit but it’s undeniably part of my goal. What that’ll look like exactly, I’m not sure but I think that’s okay. At the heart of it, I want to change the way that people think while the challenge is that most people don’t want to change.
I don’t find myself being THAT interested in business. I don’t really care to create a product right now. I don’t think my passion is helping people through fitness because that journey in simply an extension of the individual. My interest IS the individual… patient zero being myself.
So what is my journey exactly?
Being enough of an example of something powerful enough to elicit change in the world.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the metaphor behind this idea of a doctor that finds success in empowering their patients instead of finding success in pushing pills. Another example would be a king shouting from the castle “I am no better than any of you!” instead of ruling through suppression.
There’s something so powerful and abundant to those that can find incredible success through equipping people with the tools to become empowered instead of doing well only in comparison to the people they tear down.
There’s no clearer analogy than the celebrity world where most of the rich and famous maintain their status by pretending like they are truly above the average person but when someone has the ability to be that way but instead, opts to embrace the truth, that’s special.
My equivalent plan looks something like this: build outrageous influence only to turn around and tell you to think for yourself.
Most people will gain influence so they can simultaneously gain control. I’ve built enough faith in doing the right thing that I’m willing to give up short term control for the chance to actually make a difference.
I’m sure you’ve heard the quote, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” I want to teach you to fish…
I’d like to use my own life as the template for HOW to think but when it comes to WHAT to think… I want you to be your own authority.
A lot of people are good people. A lot of people are disciplined. A lot of people are interesting and funny. A lot of people are courageous and heroic.
My observation, though, is that a lot of these characteristics are born out of pressure to be tethered to something that keeps you boxed in. My question is; can I inspire millions to be tethered to nothing but the truth and their own critical thinking, in pursuit of finding fulfillment and can I do that while exposing my own biases, weaknesses, humanities, and ideas?
