Stop letting procrastination win
Here's why putting things off is more dangerous than you think...
Cru’s Letter
Procrastination is a product of a society that doesn’t demand immediate action. Back in the real survival days, there was not an option to put off what needed to be done because that likely meant death.
Just because we can procrastinate doesn’t mean we should be taking advantage of that.
Realistically speaking, you’ll likely never have to overcome procrastination because almost nothing is gonna be life or death these days
BUT
If you have a strong desire to get out of your own way, you’re gonna have to build strong enough authority in your own life so the responsibility to avoid procrastination actually does feel like a “have to.”
What this comes down to is building enough respect for yourself so when you say you need to do something, you do it.
The “how to” on respecting yourself is for another newsletter but assuming you can take the reigns on controlling your decisions, let’s discuss why procrastination is a dangerous game to play…
Let’s say you have a deadline at work two weeks away.
You could get started on the project immediately, taking full ownership of getting things done early OR you could wait until the absolute last second.
You might be thinking, “Doing a project on the first day or the last day is still the exact same amount of work. What’s the difference?”
Well, there’s a few…
When you have a responsibility to get something done, weight gets added to your conscious or subconscious mind. If you get it done immediately, you release the weight. If you continue to put it off, that weight stays burdening your mind.
With that, this weight affects every other thing you do making you worlds less effective at all of those other things.
Think of it like running with a weight vest for absolutely no reason.
In addition to taking up arbitrary space in your mind, procrastination also strips you of the ownership that comes along with completing a certain task. When you get something done through your own discipline and work ethic it’s quite a big difference from getting something done because someone else told you to.
So here’s a bit of math to show you what I mean:
procrastination = less quality work + diminished self respect
Now, here’s my helpful (but not so helpful) advice to stop procrastinating. I actually already said it…
Stop procrastinating.
There’s no further advice because it comes down to a daily choice to make the decisions that that create the life you want.
Win the mental battles. Every day counts. You got this.
